- I'm 58 years old and the older I get the more I realize how working to, in some way or another, better the conditions of others, is the best way to better conditions for myself. Also, and with no intent to diminish what I have come to know in my lifetime, but each day I am struck with the magnitude of that which I do not know.
I took over this Monte Smith identity in Levelland, TX in the early morning of May, 19, 1951. From Levelland my family moved to Fort Morgan, CO. then Hope, New Mex then Fort Sumner, New Mex then Siloam Springs AR then, in 65' (when I was 14) Charleston AR. I graduated from highschool in Charleston in 69'. Attended Westark Junior college in Fort Smith then went to the Uof A in Fayetteville, AR. (never graduated)
I was a cowboy the first 25 years of my life and in my early 20s I rode with the infamous "Wild Bunch." At some point in there I became a hippie, took on the alias of Mohesh Maharishi Monte, helped to found the Northside Guru Establishment (in my family's garage) and along the way of pursuing a higher education, I slide over into becoming a carpenter and my college journey soon came to an end.
I moved to Portland, Or. in 76' with my good friend D.J. Scholze. Little did we realize at the time that we were the point for a soon to follow migration of Fort Smithians to Portland.
I have worn many different hats in my life but the carpenter hat has been the most stable.
I came into this life as part of my spiritual quest of coming to know all that I know, who I really am, where I am and what it is that I am to do. In late 77, while living in Portland, a series of events occurred that burst wide open a doorway to a new, vast and immensley rewarding leg of my spiritual journey. This was a door that had been long occluded from my view. As a result, my life has never been the same nor have I ever lookd at life in the same way as before!
I moved from Portland to Clearwater, Fl in 93'. Met my third wife, Joy Spicer, in Clearwater and we moved to Charleston, AR in 01'. We then moved to Fort Smith in 03'. By the way, Fort Smith is the 2nd largest city in Ar but at 85,000 population give/take it's still a small city with a sizable rural influence.
I like to write and I write a lot but do not consider myself a writer. Writing, for me, is a way to find out what I'm thinking about something that I was, until writing, unaware I was thinking. Also, writing helps me greatly in organizing, reviewing and, as needed, revising my thoughts.
I'm self employed and do quite a bit of restoration work on Victorian Homes in the Historic District of Fort Smith eg., The Darby House, The Clayton House, the Bonneville House (all have their own websites) and others. Joy and I also live in the Historic District. Oh yeah, we rent we don't own. Unfortunately, for us, being a renter in Fort Smith is considerably stigmatized. Oh well.
I have one incredible daughter. She's 20 years old and she lives in Portland, Or. She doesn't like me or communicate with me right now but I expect that will change once she gets a bit more life under her belt..
I love Fort Smith! I find Fort Smith to be a most incredible live classroom that challenges me every minute of every day. There is so much contrast for me in this city that it creates a most rewarding "rub." Living in Fort Smith stretches me in ways I have not been stretched before. There is so much more to Fort Smith than what there appears to be and it demands that I bring all of my earlier life lessons out onto the desk top and into play. I have never pondered so much about anything in my life as I do about this enigmatic city.
- Your Interest
- In the past year I have become increasingly interested in the complex topic of sustainability. Also, I am rapidly becoming a locavore but not a purest locavore. My wife, Joy, founded Mother Earth's Community Garden in Fort Smith back in 04'. The actual garden, though, did not emerge until 05'. I continue to be very much invovled in the garden but Joy has moved her attention to forwarding her art career.
In any event, I am big on urban agriculture and predict that my current enthusiasm I have for the subject will soon upgrade to being evangelistic. :)

Great Friends For Life
I am very Lucky to know Shade-Law who taught me everything I know about running a site. And she gave me the Honor of being her admin and always keeps me in her Loving Prayer. She is a Wonderful Person that is the type to help people like I do. She has shared her Love with me and we became friends and she showed me how to share love with other people. And has helped me through some really tough times.
To My Friend Jodie,
Jodie gave me the honor to be her Admin also. She has taught me a lot of Love and Light.
She help me set up this site and I love her for that and Shade-Law also help me and I Love her for that.
They both gave me the confidants to open this site. She is a Wonderful Lady that helped me and talk to be about some of the times I was going through.
If it wasn't for these 2 Lady's I wouldn't have opened this site.
Deep in my Heart they are my Best Friends and I Love them both.
